The backside of the Madbox drum features a floating inset hardwood panel. This allows the piece to move independently of the housing, offsetting any tension from the natural expansion and contraction of the wood. The panel may also be inverted to locate the sound hole in the lower portion of the instrument if the bass is preferred in that location.
The snare system is pictured with the faceplate ("tapa") off, looking towards the back. A finished outer knob allows for the musician to turn the snare on and off during play. The snare can also be set to play only on one side or the other even when on, allowing for simultaneous "Peruvian" (no snare) and "Flamenco" (snare) style.
